OCALA, FL (352today.com) – The shelter at Marion County Animal Services (MCAS) is even more crowded than usual.

The shelter gained custody of 53 dogs this week after rescuing them from what they said were deplorable conditions in an Ocala home.

MCAS says many were found amidst squalor with their fur matted by their own waste and were confined to crates. They say several were malnourished and diagnosed with dental issues, as well. MCAS produced a video showing the conditions they were living in – cramped cages filled with feces and surrounded by filth.

They say they have an urgent need for adopters, fosters, and volunteers to open their hearts and homes to dogs who are ready for a forever home. MCAS says the ones who were recently rescued are not available for adoption as they need to be spayed/neutered and socialized before they’re ready for adoption.

The investigator in the cruelty case updated the community on the status of the dogs in a Facebook Live posted on Friday. You can see the dogs are enjoying being able to roam around after being confined.
