MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Marion County honors the lifesaving work of its Community Paramedicine Program with a special designation.

“Through the Community Paramedicine Program, we’ve been able to proactively reach individuals with chronic health conditions and provide services that prevent costly and unnecessary emergency department visits,” said Fire Chief James Banta of Marion County Fire Rescue. “This is a true example of how healthcare providers, public safety agencies, and the community can come together to create better outcomes for our residents.”

Launched in 2021 with AdventHealth Ocala, the program tackles rising non-urgent 911 calls by offering in-home care for chronic conditions, ultimately reducing unnecessary ER visits. Paramedics and EMTs play a crucial role, conducting assessments, coordinating care, and connecting individuals with resources.

“This exemplifies the true definition of partnership, with this program flourishing in Marion County,” said Erika Skula, CEO of AdventHealth Ocala. AdventHealth has invested over $1 million in community health efforts, with $464,000 specifically allocated to support the program’s expansion.

County Commission Chair Kathy Bryant highlighted the program’s impact: “Having this program in place not only frees up some of our resources but most importantly, we have seen tremendous outcomes from this program.”
