OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Marion County Board of County Commissioners Chair Michelle Stone is no stranger to service.

The University of Florida graduate has been a county commissioner for eight years, having first been elected in 2016.

Stone brings over thirty years of experience in banking and finance. Her background and leadership skills make her a popular choice for board positions, especially as the chair of the Marion County Commission.

The Florida Institute for County Government (ICG) appointed Stone to a two-year term on its board of directors, having been elected by her peers to serve on the governing body.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to represent Marion County while helping to educate the next generation of county commissioners,” says Stone. “Through the Certified County Commissioner program, ICG upholds one of the most important aspects of local government home rule.”

As a board member, Stone will help oversee the implementation and be involved in developing new initiatives, expanding the institute’s educational curriculum. The board is also involved in supporting the institute in a variety of capacities directing various administrative functions.

The new board will focus on improving education through the Certified County Commissioner program. This program provides county leaders with the latest resources and training.
