MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Marion County Parks & Recreation broke ground last week for improvements at the Heagy-Burry Boat Ramp at Orange Lake.

Orange Lake, which is one of the largest lakes in North Central Florida at just under 1,300 acres.

The $2.7 million project includes the construction of:

  • new two-lane boat ramp
  • paved parking lot
  • sidewalks
  • accessible floating dock system
  • permanent restroom

Marion County says funding for the project comes from Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Service Grant, Pennies for Parks bond, and the Marion County Parks & Recreation Parks Fees Fund.

The county says Orange Lake is known for its exceptional bass fishing. It’s also a popular bird-watching destination and offers opportunities for boating and kayaking.

Marion County says the improvements will not only provide boaters enhanced access to the lake but will increase Marion County’s ecotourism opportunities.

The project is expected to be complete by the fall of 2025.
