OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Attention dog and cat “pawrents!” Marion County Animal Services’ (MCAS) is resuming its Neuter Commuter services.
Neuter Commuter is Marion County’s mobile, lower-cost spay/neuter program where the services are performed on a converted bus. For now, the Neuter Commuter mobile clinic will be at the Marion County Animal Center (MCAC) at 5701 SE 66th Street in Ocala.
MCAS will post updates on its Facebook page as locations and dates are added.
The cost is $75 which includes the surgical sterilization, rabies vaccination, county license, and microchip implant.
This service is available for cats and dogs weighing 65 pounds or less. Services for larger dogs are available through other community organizations and can be found on MCAS’ website. It is only for Marion County residents and proof of address is required.
In a news release, MCAS says that the number of Marion County’s homeless pets has increased. Many are “community cats,” or cats who have adapted to outside life and require little to no care. According to PetSmart Charities, the number of feral felines is nearly 27,000 in Marion County alone.
Right now, Neuter Commuter appointments are being accepted for January 11, 25, and February 1. For more information or to make an appointment, click here or call 352-671-8700.
