OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Schools across Florida will take part in a statewide tornado drill on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 10 a.m., as part of Severe Weather Awareness Week, according to the National Weather Service.

The drill is designed to help students, teachers, and staff practice safety protocols in the event of a tornado. Marion County Public Schools will be among the participating districts, ensuring students are prepared for severe weather emergencies.

The National Weather Service will issue a Routine Weekly Test on NOAA Weather Radio to signal the start of the drill. Schools will then follow their tornado safety plans, which typically include moving to designated safe areas, assuming protective positions, and reviewing emergency response procedures.

Florida is no stranger to severe weather, with tornadoes occurring year-round. Officials encourage all residents, businesses, and organizations to use the drill as an opportunity to review their own emergency plans.
