MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – UPDATE 12:07 p.m.: The Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) says they have identified the woman killed in a shooting Tuesday night as 33-year-old Sherese Stafford.

During the investigation, deputies developed Stafford’s husband, 41-year-old Kenron Vereen, as a suspect in the shooting.

MCSO says witnesses told them Vereen left the scene in a white pickup truck. After an extensive search, deputies say they located Vereen’s vehicle, but not him.

On Tuesday night around 9:45 p.m., the sheriff’s office says they received a call from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) in Jesup, Georgia, informing them that Vereen turned himself in at their station.

He was arrested on warrants for charges unrelated to the murder of Stafford and is currently being held at the Wayne County Jail.

According to Wayne County Jail records, he was arrested on charges of aggravated battery, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, battery, and willful obstruction of law enforcement. His bond is set at $4,500.

MCSO says Vereen has not yet been charged in Stafford’s death.

“Detectives are still investigating the homicide, so his charges will depend on the outcome of their work,” said MCSO Public Information Officer Zach Moore.

According to Marion County Jail records, Vereen has been arrested 11 times in the last 20 years in Marion County. Some of those charges include aggravated assault, robbery with a firearm, aggravated battery with a weapon, attempted second degree murder, child abuse, and domestic battery.

He was most recently arrested on November 2, 2023, and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without the intent to kill (domestic) and for sending written threats to kill.
