MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Marion County is turning 180 and hopes you and your family will be part of the Marion County Day anniversary celebration this weekend.

The county is throwing a free community festival this Saturday, March 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the McPherson Governmental Campus at 601 SE 25th Ave in Ocala.

Organizers say the event is designed to celebrate the county’s history and showcase what makes the county a great place to live, work and play in 2024.

The festival includes food trucks, local arts & crafts, bounce houses, petting zoo and other activities.

“Admission is completely free, so bring your friends and family and listen to presentations from local historians and view artifacts from Marion County’s history,” said the county in a release.

In a walk down memory lane, you’ll learn how Marion County was established and its roots with the Seminole Indian tribe, pioneer origins and the influence of early settlers and the military.

“Marion County has grown substantially in its history and now boasts significant economic development and the title of Horse Capital of the World®. The people and natural landmarks of Marion County have contributed greatly to the history of the state of Florida,” said the county on its website.

Organizers are expecting up to 10,000 people to show up for the party.
