OCALA, FL (352today.com) – On Aug. 5, Marion County Animal Services finally said goodbye to its longest resident, Murphy, a four-year-old dog who loves to swim.
After spending a whopping 527 days in the shelter, Murphy was adopted by a family with a pool in their backyard and a lake not far away. He can finally swim freely after being stuck in a shelter for over a year.
In celebration of Clear the Shelters Month this August, adopting a pet from the Marion County Animal Services shelter is free all month long. Hill’s Pet Nutrition will also provide free goodie bags to anyone who adopts.
Animal Services says its shelters are unusually overcrowded, and there are many dogs and cats still waiting to find forever homes.
The shelter is located at 5701 SE 66 St. in Ocala. Pets are available for visitors from Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
This Saturday, Aug. 12, Marion County Animal Services will have rescues for adoption at the North Central Florida Outdoor Expo. The expo is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the World Equestrian Center, Expo Center 2. The expo is produced by 352Today’s parent company, North Central Florida Media Group.
