MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The highly anticipated Marion County Animal Services shelter is making remarkable progress, bringing a brighter future for local pets. Since the groundbreaking in October 2024, the Marion County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) has been closely monitoring construction milestones and is thrilled to share the latest updates.
Sitework Progress
The early site preparation phase has transformed the property into a hub of activity, setting the foundation for a state-of-the-art facility. Key accomplishments include:
- Construction Fencing Installed: Securing the site for upcoming developments.
 - Construction Trailer Mobilized: Establishing an operational center for the project team.
 - Temporary Water Installed: Ensuring essential utilities are in place.
 - Coordinating Temporary Power with SECO: Providing the necessary energy for construction.
 

A competitive bidding process for sitework and landscaping took place on Oct. 25, with Salser Construction selected as the contractor on Nov. 8. Following approval by engineers and the City of Ocala, materials are ready for fabrication and delivery, pending final permits.
Future-Focused Design
This modern shelter is being built with long-term sustainability in mind, ensuring it meets the community’s evolving needs. By investing in top-tier amenities and infrastructure from the start, the BOCC aims to minimize future modifications and maximize efficiency.

With an expected completion date of December 2025, the new multi-building campus will provide ample space for training, enrichment, and playgroups—creating an ideal environment for pets awaiting their forever homes.
Admin Building & Kennels Progress
Construction of the administration building and kennels is also progressing rapidly:
- Permit Drawings Finalized (Nov. 27).
 - Bidding Process Completed (Dec. 20).
 - GMP (Guaranteed Maximum Price) Review Ongoing.
 - Full Funding Approved: On Feb. 4, the BOCC fully funded phase two, including the administration building and first two kennel structures.
