MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Marion County firefighters saved an elderly woman’s life after rescuing her from a Summerfield home engulfed in flames.

Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) says crews responded within minutes to the 9900 block of SE 169th Lane in Summerfield around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 24, after receiving several reports that a home on was on fire.

The fire department says many of the callers stated that the home was fully in flames and that an “elderly woman was probably still inside.”

When MCFR crews arrived, they say they discovered 65% of the home on fire. Some of the crew went into the home immediately to search for the elderly woman while others began attacking the fire, said the fire department in a Facebook post.

Firefighters were able to locate the woman and she was declared a trauma alert and transported to a local hospital.

MCFR says additional firefighters arrived at the scene to help attack the fire and they were able to bring the fire under control within a little less than an hour.

The fire department says the cause and origin of the fire is being investigated by the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office.

MCFR says no firefighters were injured.
