OCALA, FL (352today.com) – On Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024, Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) responded to a residential structure fire in the 11000 block of SW 72nd Avenue in Ocala.
The emergency call came in at 11:18 a.m., reporting smoke coming from the home, a person in the driveway, and a dog trapped inside the house.
MCFR Engine #23 was the first to arrive on the scene at 11:23 a.m., where firefighters found a patient in the driveway and smoke billowing from the front of the residence. Rescue #32 arrived shortly after and immediately began providing medical care to the patient. Additional units, including Engine #32, Tower #1, and Engine #31, arrived to assist in combating the fire.
Firefighters quickly entered the home and located the source of the fire and smoke. During their search, firefighters from Tower #1 rescued Tia, the homeowner’s dog, from the structure. Once outside, crews provided Tia with oxygen treatment using a specialized pet oxygen mask.
The homeowner was transported to a local hospital for further medical attention, while Tia was taken to a veterinarian by a neighbor. No additional injuries were reported among civilians or firefighters.
MCFR commended the teamwork and quick action of the responding crews, which ensured the safety of both the homeowner and Tia. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
