MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) says it’s investigating a shooting that left a 19-year-old man dead Saturday.
Deputies say they responded to the Marion Oaks Community Center located at 294 Marion Oaks Lane in Ocala around 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, after receiving reports that a man who was later identified as Griffin Chase Smith had been shot.
After further investigation, detectives say Griffin was shot multiple times near the Dollar General located at 198 Marion Oaks Blvd. They say afterwards, he drove about a mile away to an area near the community center.
They say he was inside his white, 4-door 2020 Dodge Ram pickup truck. He was transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries, according to MCSO.
Detectives shared in a Facebook post they believe it was an ‘isolated incident.’
The sheriff’s office is asking for the public’s help with any information regarding the shooting including any employees of the businesses located near the Dollar General who might have witnessed what happened.
