MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – UPDATE, 3/4/24: The Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) say they will be closing all district offices today, Monday, March 4, from 9 a.m. until noon so that they can honor the memory of K-9 Leo.

As a reminder, the service is today at 10:00 a.m. in front of the Main Operations building located at 692 NW 30th Ave. in Ocala.

The service is open to the public. However, MCSO asks that you don’t bring your pets because there will be numerous police K-9s at the service.

ORIGINAL, 2/28/24: The Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) invites you attend a memorial service for their beloved K-9 officer, Leo.

On Monday, March 4, at 10 a.m., K-9 Leo, a “faithful companion and dedicated member” of the law enforcement family, will be honored, stated MCSO in a Facebook post.

The memorial service will be held in front of MCSO’s main operations building located at 692 NW 30th Ave. in Ocala.

K-9 Leo was shot and killed in the line of duty on Saturday, Feb. 17, while deputies attempted to arrest a man on charges of battery by strangulation.

“Your presence and support mean a lot to us as we pay tribute to K-9 Leo’s dedication and service to Marion County,” stated the sheriff’s office.

The service is open to the public and you are encouraged to attend to pay your respects to Leo. If you are unable to attend the service in person, you can watch it via live stream on the sheriff’s office Facebook page.

“Let us come together to honor and remember the courage, loyalty, and sacrifice of our beloved K-9 Leo,” added MCSO.
