MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – On Thursday morning, law enforcement and community members gathered to honor Marion County officers who made the ultimate sacrifice for the safety of their community.
The fallen officer memorial was held at the McPherson Governmental Campus on Southeast 25th Ave. in Ocala.

Belleview Police Department (BPD) Chief Terry Holland provided an emotional roll call for the Marion County law enforcers who lost their lives protecting ours.

The Marion County Pipe and Drums team performed a rendition of Amazing Grace following the roll call, while fellow officers stood by to salute.
Ocala Police Department Chief Mike Balken then approached the podium for an emotional final remark.
“As we close today’s tribute to the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, we are reminded of the profound debt of gratitude that we owe to those who have laid down their lives in the service to their communities,” said Balken.
With subtle cracks in his voice, Balken showed his support for the families of fallen heroes.
“We extend our deepest gratitude and our unwavering support,” said Balken. “You should know your sacrifices will never be forgotten, and your loved ones will always be remembered by us as heroes.”
MCSO Chaplain Vernon Phillips closed out the ceremony with a prayer.

“Lord, we ask that you would provide the families peace and comfort, wash over them with your never-ending love, just allow them to feel your presence,” prayed Phillips. “We ask that you surround them (law enforcement officers) with individuals that encourage them, greet them, and tell them thank you for the job that they’re doing. It is a calling, and one worthy to step into.”
