MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – A 36-year-old Ocala man was killed Wednesday afternoon following a crash involving a pickup truck at the intersection of County Road 42 and SE 89th Terrace, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

Troopers say the crash happened at approximately 3:09 p.m. when a 66-year-old man from Dover, Tennessee, was driving a pickup truck eastbound on CR 42 and attempted a U-turn from the left turn-only lane at SE 89th Terrace.

At the same time, the motorcycle rider was traveling westbound on CR 42 in the outside lane, approaching the same intersection. According to FHP, the motorcyclist attempted to stop but laid the bike down and collided with the right side of the pickup truck.

The motorcyclist was transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead at 4:51 p.m. by Dr. Lawrence Ferber.

FHP has not released the names of either driver as the crash remains under investigation.
