OCALA, FL (352today.com) – A new exhibit at the Appleton Museum of Art invites you explore “Wall: Five Decades of Contemporary Art.”

The collection contains 30 artworks by 28 artists and spans an impressive 53-year period, from 1964 to 2017, showcasing the artistic landscape of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Meaning behind the title

The title, Wall, is a direct reference to a large-scale industrial print by Robert Indiana, a prominent artist included in the exhibit and serves as a symbolic reminder of the multifaceted nature of walls.

Wall is also a reminder that although ubiquitous and seemingly mundane, walls have multiple sides that represent many things,” said the museum in a news release. “They construct spaces that literally function but also symbolize the ideas of ‘inside vs. outside’ and ‘free vs. confined.’”

“The exhibition presents a unique opportunity to experience both recent acquisitions and treasured visitor favorites,” said Appleton Director Jason Steuber. “We encourage everyone to come and immerse themselves in these world-class works that adorn our gallery walls. Masterpieces by Andy Warhol, Marc Chagall, Salvador Dali, and over 20 other exceptional artists await you.”
