ORIGINAL, 5/24/2024: It can be a challenge when you find yourself on the road, and away from home.

The right accommodations can make a significant difference, especially when you’re at an event for several days or more than a week.

A new RV site, featuring 29 premium spaces and 37 standard spaces, at the Southeastern Livestock Pavilion on the complex’s campground will allow event holders, exhibitors, participants and attendees an opportunity to stay at the location for multi-day events.

“Each one has access to water, sewer and electricity,” said Sara Lambert, Marion County Parks and Recreation community engagement coordinator. “They have access to a small picnic area and there are on-site dump stations.”

The new RV site has its own entrance for those who are staying there.

“They’ll be able to walk from their site to whatever portion of the pavilion that they’re having their event in,” said Lambert.

Marion County and the Florida Department of Agriculture acted in concert to make the project possible, with the Department of Agriculture funding 31% of the construction costs.

It’s expected that the campground will generate more than $1 million by its fifth year in operation.

“The project is certainly a long time coming,” said Christen Milligan, Southeastern Livestock Pavilion manager, in a news release. “The additional space allows for events to bring in more participants, which in turn allows them to garner larger sponsorships.”

The sites are not available for booking just yet. We’re told rentals will generally cost $60 to $75 per night depending on the type of site and time of year. Prices could be higher January-March which is peak season.

There will be a ribbon cutting to official mark the grand opening for the new RV park on Wednesday, May 29, at 9 a.m.
