OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Temperatures are expected to drop into the 30s in north-central Florida this week, causing several communities to open cold night shelters for those in need.
Gainesville
The City of Gainesville announced Monday it’s expecting to active its Cold Night Shelter program due to a big chill this week.
When temperatures dip below 45 degrees, that’s the threshold that triggers Gainesville to open its shelters.
St. Francis House and GRACE Marketplace will be open to those in need of shelter. Shelters will be accessible until temperatures rise above 45 degrees.
St. Francis House serves families, women, and children, and GRACE Marketplace mainly serves ‘individual adults’ said the city in a news release.
Citrus County
Shelters will also be available to those in need in Citrus County.
The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) shared in a Facebook post they will be opening a cold night shelter in Homosassa.
The shelter will open Tuesday and Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. It will be at the Nature Coast Community Center located at 5113 S. Suncoast Boulevard.
CCSO says temperatures are expected to drop below 42 degrees. They say hot meals, warm sleeping areas, and showers will be provided. Citrus County Transit will provide free transportation to the shelter for those who need a ride.
