OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Big money changed hands this week at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s (OBS) first two-year-olds in training sale of the year.
The three-day auction ended Thursday and saw a total of 447 horses sold for a gross amount of $66,487,600.

The most expensive purchase of this year’s sale came on the last day when Hip 788, a filly sired by Ocala Stud Farm’s Win Win Win, sold for $1.8 million.
OBS says the future racing prospect tied a track record at the under tack show on Saturday running the fastest quarter mile in a time of :20 1/5. The under tack is a workout to provide buyers a way to evaluate the speed and agility for each juvenile before placing their bids. Typically, the better a horse performs in the under tack, the more competitive bidding is during the auction.
An agent representing Zedan Racing purchased the filly on behalf of Saudi Arabian businessman Amr F. Zedan.

In all, six juveniles sold for amounts topping seven figures.
The average price for a thoroughbred at this year’s sale was $148,742.
The next major OBS sale will be another for two-year-olds in training and will take place April 16-19.
