OCALA, FL (352today.com) – It didn’t take long to tally the votes in the city of Ocala municipal election Tuesday evening. There was only one contested race on the ballot.

In the City Council District 2 race incumbent Ire Bethea, Sr. faced opposition from longtime educator Reginald Landers.

With 2,853 votes cast in the race, Bethea easily won re-election garnering almost 68% of the vote. The outcome returns Bethea to the council for a second term.

District 2 encompasses the northwestern part of Ocala.

The Marion County Supervisor of Elections website indicates there are nearly 38,000 registered voters in Ocala. Nearly 8% of registered voters cast a ballot in this race.

Landers spoke to 352today on Monday, the eve of the election. At that time, he expressed hopeful optimism about beating the incumbent and stated representing the district has been his lifelong ambition.
