OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Ocala Electric Utility (OEU), in partnership with the Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA), will host the 2025 Florida Lineman Competition at the World Equestrian Center on Saturday, March 1. The event will bring together line workers from across the state and beyond to showcase their skills, safety practices, and teamwork in a series of challenging events.

The competition begins with an opening ceremony at 8 a.m., with events running until approximately 3 p.m. Admission is free, and attendees can enjoy family-friendly activities, local food trucks, and exhibits highlighting career opportunities in the electric utility industry.

Established in 2001 by FMEA, the Florida Lineman Competition is a celebrated tradition that honors the work of line workers who maintain and restore power across Florida. Participants will compete in real-world scenarios, including pole climbing, transformer repairs, and rescue simulations, with a strong emphasis on safety and precision.

“We are thrilled to host the 2025 Florida Lineman Competition at the World Equestrian Center, a premier venue for world-class events,” said Doug Peebles, Director of OEU. “This is an incredible opportunity to honor the skills and dedication of Florida’s line workers while highlighting their critical role in ensuring reliable electric service. We’re proud to bring this event back to Ocala and invite everyone to join us in celebrating these unsung heroes.”

This will be the sixth time Ocala has hosted the event, with the most recent competition held in 2014.
