OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Ocala Fire Rescue (OFR) crews battled a house fire Friday night that claimed the life of its occupant.

OFR says multiple fire units responded to a home in the 1900 block of Northwest 24th Court around 9:30 p.m.

Once they got on scene, they say smoke clouded the area and flames could be seen through a front, left-side window.

They say neighbors told them someone was inside.

“Upon making entry, the crew encountered heavy smoke conditions with no visibility,” said public information officer Ashley Lopez in a news release. “As the crew made their way through the home, searching for occupants and the seat of the fire, they discovered a nonresponsive victim.”

Lopez says they got the person out of the house but the person did not survive the fire.

OFR says crews re-entered the home to make sure no one else was inside.

Crews say the fire started in the attic but there’s no indication of the cause of the fire at this time.

They had the fire out by 10 p.m.
