OCALA, FL (352today.com) – A 24-year-old Ocala man was arrested for soliciting a child online, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO). On May 8, 2025, MCSO Internet Crimes Against Children Detective Henrik Osthed arrested Gavin Kirby (DOB: 02/22/2001) for Using a Computer to Solicit a Child while Misrepresenting Age and Transmitting Material Harmful to Minors.
MCSO reports that on March 12, 2025, Kirby initiated private messaging with an undercover MCSO detective after responding to a social media post indicating the detective was new to the area. Kirby was informed he was communicating with a 13-year-old girl, obtained a phone number, and made multiple calls.
On April 1, 2025, another undercover detective, posing as a child, answered Kirby’s call and identified herself as a minor on three occasions. According to MCSO, Kirby requested the presumed child produce child pornography to prove she was not law enforcement before meeting for sexual activity. Kirby also sent an explicit photo, which he deleted after confirming it was viewed, and engaged in behaviors to avoid detection.
Through Detective Osthed’s investigation, MCSO confirmed Kirby’s identity and residence in Marion County. The investigation revealed Kirby had made numerous social media posts since November 2024 seeking sexual activity, including with children. On May 8, 2025, Detectives Osthed and Ryan Paxton attempted to interview Kirby at his home at 6 Pecan Radial Place, Ocala. MCSO states that Kirby’s vehicle was observed entering the area, making a U-turn, and driving away. A traffic stop was conducted, and Kirby was detained.
Kirby was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he is held without bond, per MCSO. Due to the nature of the crimes and Kirby’s online activity, MCSO believes there may be additional victims. Anyone with information about potential victims is asked to contact Detective Osthed at (352) 351-4710.
