OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Ocala Police arrested Richard Hawkins, 62, on Feb. 23 following allegations of a sexual offense involving a minor at Saddleworth Green Apartments, located at 2901 SW 41st St.
Officers responded to the scene to investigate claims that a 16-year-old family friend, who had stayed overnight at Hawkins’ apartment, awoke in Hawkins’ bed with his underwear pulled down. Upon arrival, Detective Thomas from the Ocala Police Department (OPD) determined there was probable cause to arrest Hawkins for indecent, lewd or lascivious touching of a minor, false imprisonment, and open carry of a firearm. Hawkins was booked into the Marion County Jail.
OPD says that Hawkins, a youth sports coach and part-owner of an Ocala business focused on children’s entertainment and sports, has raised concerns among authorities due to his access to children. “We take these allegations very seriously and are fully committed to protecting our community, especially our children,” OPD said in a statement. They urged anyone with information or similar experiences involving Hawkins to contact law enforcement.
The investigation remains ongoing.
