OCALA, FL (352today.com) – November is ‘Adopt a Senior Pet’ month. As part of 352today’s commitment to help reduce overcrowding at the Marion County animal shelter, we’re featuring a couple of senior pups.
Marion County Animal Services (MCAS) is waiving fees for all pets over seven years of age. MCAS says all others are free in exchange for a few non-perishable items for the ‘Bring the Harvest Home’ food pantry campaign.
Before we introduce you to this week’s lovable animals, we wanted to provide you with three reasons to consider adopting a senior pet.
- Unconditional Love and Gratitude: Senior pets often come with a history of love and companionship. By adopting a senior pet, you are giving them a chance to spend their golden years in a caring and loving environment. They are known for expressing immense gratitude, forming a deep bond with their new owners, and providing unconditional love.
- Predictable Personality: Unlike puppies or kittens whose personalities are still developing, senior pets have established temperaments. This means you can choose a pet that matches your lifestyle and preferences more accurately. Whether you’re looking for a laid-back companion or an energetic friend, a senior pet’s personality is already apparent, making the adoption process smoother.
- Skip the Puppy (or Kitten) Phase: While the playful antics of young animals are endearing, they also require a significant time investment for training and care. Senior pets, on the other hand, often come with basic training and are more likely to be housebroken. Adopting a senior pet allows you to skip the challenges of the puppy or kitten phase, making it an ideal choice for individuals or families with busy schedules.
