DUNNELLON, FL (352today.com) – A woman from Dunnellon lost her life, and a man was badly injured when their SUV was struck by a car that was trying to turn off County Road (CR) 484 onto a side road on Saturday afternoon.

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) says that the wreck happened around 12:40 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, at the intersection of CR 484 and SW 110th Avenue. According to FHP, a car was heading east on CR 484 while the SUV was going west. As the car approached the intersection with SW 110th Avenue, the driver, a 38-year-old man from Dunnellon, attempted to make a left turn right when the SUV was coming.

FHP reported that the front of the car hit the left side of the SUV. After the impact, the SUV veered off the road to the right and rolled over. They say that there were two people inside the SUV: a 74-year-old man driving and a 69-year-old woman as a passenger, both from Dunnellon. They were thrown from the vehicle during the crash. An FHP officer noted that neither of them was wearing a seatbelt at the time.

The woman in the SUV sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.

The report also stated that the driver of the car and a 40-year-old female passenger were unharmed.

FHP says it is still investigating.
