OCALA, FL (352today.com) – The Impresario, Ocala Civic Theatre’s (OCT) latest Rattlebox on the Road production, is set to dazzle audiences from Nov. 15-17 with a blend of Mozart’s music, wit, and theatrical charm.

Taking place in the intimate Grace Episcopal Church parish hall, this hour-long one-act play, featuring an original book and libretto by OCT Executive & Artistic Director Greg Thompson, invites audiences into a humorous world of backstage antics, jealous divas, and dramatic mishaps.

Set in the golden age of Ocala at the Marion Opera House, The Impresario centers on Mr. Goodman, a troubled theatre manager played by James Ray Taylor III, who must juggle a colorful cast of characters. From a meddlesome assistant (Jason Bartosic) with operatic dreams to two rival sopranos – the seasoned Madame Cantrill (Jamille Lea Brewster) and the ambitious Miss Prentiss (Ashlyn Gibbs) – the drama is constant. Adding to the mayhem is Mr. Flush, a flirtatious financier, played by Adam Pryor, while pianist Chris Goddard provides cynical commentary and musical accompaniment.

If you’ve seen the movie Amadeus, you know how lighthearted and outrageously funny Mozart was, and that comes across in his music,” says Melody Murphy, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for OCT.  “One musical highlight of the production is when the two dueling divas try to outsing each other with ever-higher notes – which of course is about trying to prove more than just their vocal range.

The production showcases five of OCT’s most talented vocalists, each bringing extensive stage experience. Jamille Lea Brewster, OCT’s resident voice teacher, has previously performed in Lucia di Lammermoor and The Marriage of Figaro, while Ashlyn Gibbs, known for her roles in She Loves Me and Beauty and the Beast, adds depth to the cast. Resident music director Jason Bartosic brings his experience from roles such as Uncle Fester in The Addams Family and Horace Vandergelder in Hello, Dolly! to enliven his character, Dicker. Adam Pryor and James Ray Taylor III, both active members of OCT’s Brick City Cabaret Company, round out the ensemble.

These are some powerhouse voices, an absolute joy to hear,” Murphy shares.

Accompanied by pianist Chris Goddard, who has performed internationally and teaches at the University of Florida, the production promises an hour of soaring songs and sharp wit. With only four performances – Friday, Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. – tickets are expected to sell quickly.

Tickets are available for $30 for adults and $15 for ages 18 and under. Secure seats online at ocalacivictheatre.com or through the OCT box office by calling (352) 236-2274.
