OCALA, FL (352today.com) – The Ocala Police Department (OPD) says they have arrested a 23-year-old man and charged him with murder for the death of another man.

OPD says on January 10, they arrested Zy’Wantre Lester for the murder of 34-year-old McKenzie Roundtree which they say occurred on December 22, 2023.

On that day, officers say they responded to a vacant lot located near the 1900 block of SW First St. around 8:20 p.m. When they arrived at the scene, they found Roundtree dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

Upon further investigation, OPD detectives say they gathered information and several leads, as well as witnesses and other evidence, and linked them to Lester as the shooter. Detectives then determined there was enough probable cause to arrest him on charges of first-degree murder.

“Great work to our detectives who worked this case, but also to those in our community who came forward. Your tips and leads helped us serve justice and get a dangerous person off our streets, making Ocala a safer place for everyone,” stated the police department on Facebook.
