OCALA, FL (352today.com) – The Ocala Police Department (OPD) arrested a woman they say hit and killed a bicyclist while driving drunk.
Police say officers responded to fatal crash near the 3100 block of Northwest Blitchton Road around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
They say 43-year-old Elizabeth Pizzonia crashed into a bicyclist, who was identified as 61-year-old Louis Osiel. Officers say he passed away at the scene.
OPD says Pizzonia initially left the crash and then returned back to the scene. In a Facebook post, OPD says officers observed that Pizzonia appeared impaired with “bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and the smell of alcohol on her breath.”
They say she was swaying, stopping movements, and did incorrect maneuvers during a field sobriety test. Officers say she refused to give a voluntary sample of her blood and later refused a breath test.
Police arrested Pizzonia on charges of DUI manslaughter and for leaving the scene of a crash.
