OCALA, FL (352today.com) – The Ocala Police Department (OPD) is asking for your help identifying a man they say sped away from officers on a dirt bike and endangered a small child in the process.
OPD says the man pictured was riding a dirt bike with a small child in the area of NW Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and State Road 40 on Saturday, March 23, around 7:30 p.m. The police department says when they attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the man took off. They say they tried to stop the individual because the dirt bike not street legal and the rider was seen doing a “wheelie” while in motion.
OPD shared in a Facebook post when they reviewed camera footage, that’s when they learned there was a small child on the dirt bike as well.
“The rider’s actions, including reckless driving and going against traffic on a major road, showed a serious lack of consideration for the safety of the child passenger. These actions could lead to child neglect charges,” shared OPD with 352today.
They are asking anyone who recognizes the individual to contact OPD at 352-369-7000. If you’d like to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers of Marion County by calling 352-368-7867. You can also submit a tip online here.
