OCALA, FL (352today.com) – A 24-year-old murder case in Ocala remains unsolved, with detectives still uncertain about the person behind the murder.

To make matters worse, the identity of the murder victim is unknown leading the Ocala Police Department (OPD) to reach out to the public for potential clues.

Background

OPD says they received a call back in August 2000 after workers with the Ocala Public Works found human remains buried in a water pipe that they were excavating. OPD says the water pipe was near the 600 block of SW 12th St.

The remains were handed over to medical professionals who determined the unidentified person was a white male in his 40s. They noted that the male had distinctive dental features, including missing teeth and a gap between his upper front teeth.

OPD believes the male suffered several bone fractures but says the timing of the injuries is unknown.

They also mentioned the body may have been buried in the water pipe anywhere between eight months and five years before it was found.

OPD says they are continuing to investigate the case as a potential homicide.
