LADY LAKE, FL (352today.com) – Lady Lake Police Department is investigating a serious traffic crash that left a pedestrian critically injured.

According to police, the crash occurred at approximately 4:56 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at the intersection of N. U.S. Hwy 27/441 and Wales Plaza.

Officers arrived on scene at 5:01 a.m. and found a black Hyundai Sonata stopped in the roadway with its hazard lights activated. A male pedestrian was found lying in the middle of the intersection. Police said he was breathing but unresponsive.

The driver of the Hyundai, identified as 65-year-old Eunice Young of Lady Lake, told investigators she was traveling northbound on U.S. 27/441 with a green traffic signal when she suddenly felt a severe impact and realized she had struck a pedestrian.

According to the release, Young told officers she did not see the man as he crossed the roadway in the crosswalk towards Wales Plaza. The vehicle sustained significant front-end damage, including damage to the windshield.

The pedestrian, identified as 36-year-old Anthony Heine of St. Augustine, was found approximately 67 feet north of the crosswalk. Lake County EMS transported him to a trauma hospital in Ocala, where he remains in critical condition.

Police said all northbound lanes of U.S. Hwy 27/441 were blocked at Main Street during the investigation. The roadway reopened fully at approximately 8:50 a.m.

No citations have been issued at this time. Due to the seriousness of the injuries, police said a traffic homicide investigation remains ongoing.
