SPRING HILL, FL (352today.com) – Just before 7 a.m. this morning, Monday, Oct. 9, troopers responded to an accident involving a pickup truck and a pedestrian crossing US-41 in Hernando County.

Troopers say the woman died at a local hospital from injuries suffered during the collision.

According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV), the pedestrian identified as a 40-year-old St. Petersburg woman was walking eastbound across US-41 at its intersection with Spring Hill Drive.

Troopers say she was hit when she entered the path of a driver headed northbound in a Toyota Tacoma. The truck driver was identified as a 25-year-old Brooksville man.

In 2023, pedestrian crashes in Hernando County have been on the rise. The county saw ten crashes in August and another ten in September, the most for the year so far, according to data from FLHSMV. Out of the 57 pedestrian crashes that occurred from January to September, six were fatal.

October is National Pedestrian Safety Month. FLHSMV has safety tips for both pedestrians and drivers here.
