This marks the fifth consecutive YouthBuild grant received by CareerSource CLM since 2013, bringing the total funding for Phoenix Rising YouthBuild to over $6 million. The program provides critical job training and educational opportunities for underserved young adults aged 18 to 24, while simultaneously revitalizing economically challenged neighborhoods.

Dale French, CareerSource CLM’s executive vice president, emphasized the program’s dual impact: “[The YouthBuild grant] not only provides affordable housing options for residents of Marion County but also provides invaluable skills and opportunities for our area’s youth.”

Transforming Lives Through Education and Training

Phoenix Rising YouthBuild’s 20-week program offers participants a blend of classroom learning and hands-on workplace training. Students can earn their high school diplomas, gain leadership skills, and prepare for postsecondary education, apprenticeships, or employment. Additional support includes mentoring, personal counseling, and participation in civic and community service projects.

One of the program’s highlights is its partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Marion County, enabling students to construct homes for families in need. The latest grant will support 48 young adults over the next two years and result in the construction of four homes. Since its inception, more than 225 students have participated in Phoenix Rising YouthBuild, contributing to the completion of 32 homes in Marion and Citrus counties.

A Model for Community Collaboration

Launched in 2011 by then-Ocala Police Chief Sam Williams, Phoenix Rising YouthBuild was developed through a partnership with CareerSource CLM, Eckerd Connects Workforce Development, Habitat for Humanity, and other local organizations. Over the years, the initiative has garnered national acclaim, earning awards and recognition from entities such as the Florida League of Cities, National League of Cities, Harvard’s School of Business, and Habitat for Humanity International.
