Ocala, FL (352today.com) – The annual Ocala Christmas Parade dazzled spectators on Saturday, December 14, 2024, with its largest lineup ever, featuring 152 units and drawing thousands of attendees.
Organized by Friends of the Ocala Christmas Parade, the event was hailed as the biggest parade in the city’s history, according to organizer Sue Mosely.
The festivities kicked off with an energetic procession led by dinosaurs T-Rex and Triceratops, setting a playful tone for the evening. Chloe Meyer expertly managed Whiskey the horse from Big Sexy Stables, pulling a carriage carrying former Ocala Mayor Kent Guinn and his wife Sandra, who served as the Grand Marshals.
Celebrity Hosts and Live Entertainment
Local radio personalities added flair to the parade, with Mr. Bob and Krystle from 93.7 K-Country and Scott Chase and Hunter from Wind-FM engaging the crowd with lively commentary. The Grinch made several cheeky appearances, delighting children and adults alike.
Marching bands from North Marion, West Port High School, Belleview High School, Belleview Middle School, and Howard Middle School provided the soundtrack for the night.
The Lake Weir Color Guard and Ocala Twirling Academy impressed with their synchronized routines, including a fiery performance from the twirlers.
Floats and Special Guests
AdventHealth’s float brought a cozy holiday vibe, complemented by fake snow that added a magical touch for children. The Silver River Museum’s float featured waving kids, while beauty queens and festive mascots, including Elvis, added glamour to the procession. The Amelia Island Pirates made a dramatic entrance, adding a swashbuckling twist to the event.
The Ocala Roller Derby skaters brought energy to the parade route, while the Shriners showcased their classic dune buggies. Marion County Animal Services and Storybook Farm melted hearts with their adorable dogs, reminding the crowd of the joy pets bring during the holidays.
Community Spirit and Traditions
Mayor Ben Marciano, accompanied by his family, greeted the enthusiastic crowd, embodying the community spirit that defines Ocala’s holiday tradition. Meanwhile, EE Farrier offered a glimpse into traditional farrier work, and the Sunrise Elementary Dance Team charmed spectators with their coordinated moves.
