OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Just before 8 p.m. on Saturday, Ocala Fire Rescue (OFR) crews raced to the Ocala International Airport following a distress call from a pilot who reported his plane had crashed.
OFR crews had to go offroad to get to the crash site. Once on scene, they say the found an experimental aircraft nose down, wedged against a tree line just outside the airport’s fence line.
Rescue crews say the pilot couldn’t get out because of the plane’s position and the trees surrounding it.
First responders got him out and transported him to the hospital.
The pilot was the only one on board.
It’s not clear at this time, what may have caused the crash.
