ALACHUA, FL (352Today.com) – A police chase ended in a single-vehicle wreck on I-75 near the Alachua-Columbia County border during evening rush hour on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025.
An off-duty Gainesville Police Department officer noticed a man acting erratically at a stoplight, making gestures that could be interpreted as his needing help for a mental health crisis. The officer conducted a traffic stop, and a dog jumped out of the car; the subject left his car to pursue the animal, then got into a car–it’s unclear at this time whether it was his or a different vehicle–and sped off.
The subject got on the freeway but veered off the road and crashed near the Alachua-Columbia County border. The subject was injured in the crash and was taken to the hospital. Traffic on I-75 was briefly disrupted, but lanes have since been reopened.
