OCALA, FL. (352today) – This week’s pup is like no other. Meet Minnie, a sweet girl who has gone through nothing but hardship and awaits her happy forever home at the Humane Society of Marion County.
Minnie came to the shelter in heartbreaking circumstances. After being uncared for by her owner, a neighbor stepped in and took the dog to the HSMC. Minnie was in grave condition; she had open wounds filled with maggots, was severely underweight, and chronically anemic. Her first night was spent at the University of Florida’s Small Animal Hospital in the ICU. The HSMC staff emotionally expressed that they did not think she would make it.
Since then, Minnie has come a long way from her rough start. She has gained some healthy weight, her wounds are healing, and she has found safety in the loving care of the HSMC. She is about 2 years old and weighs 30 pounds. She can be shy and cautious at first, but with gentle love and care, Minnie can blossom wherever she may go.
The ideal home for sweet Minnie is one with a calm atmosphere, no cats, and continued training. Those interested in giving this pup a fresh start can visit the Humane Society of Marion County, Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., located at 701 NW 14th Road in Ocala.
