OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Clear rounds, a defined objective, and a supportive home crowd propelled the United States to victory in the United States to victory in the FEI Longines League of Nations™ Ocala, March 22, at the World Equestrian Center.
This marks the second time the Ocala venue has hosted the second leg of the Longines League of Nations™ CSIO five-star.
The U.S. team rebounded strongly from a 10th-place finish in Abu Dhabi last month to claim top honors on home soil.

“It’s doesn’t get much better than that,” said U.S. Chef d’Equipe Robert Ridland. “I love the format the League of Nations has – specifically for the excitement. It was great that Laura (Kraut) added to that just to make sure that McClain (Ward) had some real pressure on him in the second round.”
Ten teams competed in the two-round format, with the U.S. leading after the first round thanks to clear performances by Olympic veterans Laura Kraut and McLain Ward, and 2023 Pan Am gold medalist Lillie Keenan. Williston’s Aaron Vale had one rail down and did not return for the second round.

“It’s a great facility, and it’s wonderful to have it here in my backyard,” said Vale. “We’re lucky to have this event here and to be a part of it, as well.”
The U.S. fielded a seasoned team. Ward and Keenan produced double-clear rounds. Kraut had one rail in the second round, heightening the drama.

“I’m incredibly grateful to ride for Team U.S.A.,” said Keenan, 28, who delivered fault-free rounds aboard Argan de Beliard. “It’s pretty special, obviously to win on home soil and to have everyone really see one of the best venues in the world and the best venue in America.”
Germany challenged the U.S. but settled for second place. Kraut, a Hall of Famer with Olympic gold and silver medals, rode Dorado 212, returning to international competition after injury.
“I’m extra proud of him for the performance he put in tonight,” Kraut said. “His first round was impeccable.”
Ward, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, anchored the team with Ilex, delivering a fault-free final round under pressure.
“The drama in the end is a testament to the format,” Ward said. “I think it makes for excellent sport and competition.”
