OCALA, Fl (352today.com) – A man who will be remembered for his professionalism, character and integrity passed away Sept. 22, in his sleep.

Marion County Sheriff’s Office Master Sgt. Richard Kelly will be remembered for his competence and reliability. Kelly began his career with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in 2008 as a corrections assistant, and would later become a corrections officer, where he would earn plaudits as a recipient of the honor graduate award.

As Kelly’s career evolved and progressed, he would become a MCSO patrol deputy in 2012. He would be promoted to the rank of MCSO Sergeant in 2020, and attain the rank of Master Sgt, in June of 2025.

However, it was Kelly’s high standards that found him in the position of field training officer, developing the next generation of deputies for the agency. Kelly also served with the MCSO’s Field Force Unit. He will be remembered for his work ethic and his willingness to help where and when he was needed.
