GAINESVILLE, FL (352today.com) – Heads up, Gainesville commuters! Work is scheduled to begin on a roughly one-mile stretch of road and it will cause delays.

The Alachua County Public Works Department (ACPWD) said it planned to start resurfacing Southwest 46th Boulevard after Thanksgiving. It’s anticipated to take roughly 30 days to complete.

The construction on Southwest 46th Boulevard will start at the intersection of Northwest 75th Street near Kimball Wiles Elementary School and end at Southwest 91st Street. The combo of road work and school traffic could make this a commuter mess – especially in the mornings. Avoid the hassle by finding an alternate route.

Alachua County says the project is funded by the new Wild Spaces Public Places infrastructure surtax voters approved last year. Alachua County says the new tax is currently generating approximately $11.7 million annually for road and bridge repair projects.

The county says Southwest 46th Boulevard project is budgeted at $1,244,643 and includes the milling and resurfacing of 1 1/2 inches of asphalt.
