MICANOPY, FL (352today.com) – Nothing says 4th of July like Colonial re-enactors, classic cars and a kazoo band. Kazoo band?!?! If you’re in the Alachua County town of Micanopy, a kazoo band performing patriotic songs is all part of the 4th of July fun.

People decked out in red, white and blue line Cholokka Boulevard for an Independence Day parade that kicked off at 11 a.m.

The parade is led by the Statue of Liberty and Uncle Sam who are better known as Sarah Wolking and her 88-year-old father, Charles Horn.

Members of the Daughters of the American Revolution dressed in colonial-inspired costumes stroll along the parade route that winds through the charming, tree-lined historic district.

Kids waving flags in one hand and collecting candy in the other delight in the community tradition.

The patriotic event continues Thursday from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Micanopy Ball Park. Fireworks start at dusk.
