OCALA, FL (352today.com) — Sprite may be tiny, but her spirit is anything but.
This brave young pup, currently under the care of the Humane Society of Marion County, was diagnosed with Persistent Right Aortic Arch (PRAA), a rare birth defect that made eating nearly impossible. The condition severely restricted her esophagus, leading to malnutrition and a secondary condition called megaesophagus, which prevents normal swallowing.
But Sprite is a fighter.
On March 30, she underwent a life-changing surgery to correct the PRAA. While she’s made huge strides, Sprite must now eat every meal sitting fully upright to avoid choking — a challenge her foster family meets with creativity and care.
The Humane Society is now raising funds to purchase a custom Bailey Chair, a specially designed seat that will help Sprite safely enjoy her meals. Her surgery cost $3,100, and the chair will be another important step in her journey toward a happy, healthy life.
“She’s doing great in her foster home,” the shelter shared in a recent Facebook video. “She eats like a little human — sitting straight up — and she’s loving all the attention.”
The shelter is asking for the community’s help. Donations will go directly toward Sprite’s ongoing care and her much-needed chair.
