OCALA, FL (352today.com) – For many veterans in Marion County, June 7 won’t just be another Saturday — it will be a turning point. Hosted by Veterans Helping Veterans, the upcoming Veterans Stand Down is more than an event; it’s a lifeline for homeless and struggling veterans in need of support, services, and solidarity.

“We’re 10% of the population and a stronger veterans’ community benefits all involved,” said Todd Belknap, president of Veterans Helping Veterans. “What we’re doing to help make that a reality is on Saturday, June 7, we are going to be conducting what is called a Veterans Stand Down.”

Services That Make a Difference

The event will offer a broad range of free services aimed at helping veterans regain stability, including:

  • Access to food through the Veterans Helping Veterans pantry
  • Case management assistance for financial needs, including mortgage or rent support
  • Free bus passes for those without transportation

Free Dental Clinic

One of the standout services is a mobile dental clinic hosted by FreeD.O.M. Clinic USA at Kingdom Revival Church, 3318 E. Silver Springs Blvd. (7 a.m. to 3 p.m.), staffed by Ann Burnett and a team of volunteer dentists. They’ll provide:

  • Dental cleanings
  • Tooth extractions
  • X-rays

Belknap said that appointments are necessary for the dental services. Call 352.433.2320.

Two Locations, One Mission

While most services will be held at the Veterans Helping Veterans facility, the dental clinic will occupy much of the Kingdom Revival Church, located just 0.7 miles away. Some services, like free haircuts, will be available at both locations.

  • Barbers will provide free haircuts
  • Showers will be open, with private facilities for men and women
  • Hygiene kits, socks, t-shirts, undergarments, blankets, and backpacks will be distributed

“We’re going to be giving them a lot of stuff and loving on them,” said Belknap.

Legal and Mental Health Support

Also participating is the Marion County Veterans Treatment Court, offering help to those with unresolved legal issues. In addition:

  • Veterans counseling services will be available on-site
  • Licensed clinicians, who are also veterans, will provide PTSD support, marriage counseling, and private one-on-one sessions
  • Spiritual counseling will also be offered
