OCALA, FL (352today.com) – A state-championship-winning head coach is taking his head-coaching talents elsewhere in Marion County.

John Brantley III, who won a state championship with the team in 2010 and led Trinity Catholic High School to back-to-back state championship game appearances in 2022 and 2023, has accepted a head coaching position at Forest High School.

Brantley resigned from his head coaching helm at Trinity High on November 18, a position he held for 15 years. Before his head coaching appointment, Brantley worked as an assistant coach for the school, starting in 2003.

Brantley’s accolades as head coach of Trinity High are well-documented, as is his rooted history at Forest High. He graduated in 1975 and played quarterback for the Wildcats, leading them to a 13-0 record and a state championship in 1974.

That’s not to mention the mirrored father-son comparison he holds with his son, John Brantley IV; both played quarterback for the Wildcats and later found collegiate success as quarterbacks for the Florida Gators.

Brantley stands ecstatic when asked about the opportunity to coach his high school alma mater.

“Great day to be a Wildcat,” exclaimed Brantley. “An opportunity to go full circle, from player to head coach. Looking forward to the challenge! Go, ‘cats!”

Brantley holds a 27-0 record against Marion County Public School teams. His first game next season sees him pinned against his former assistant, North Marion head coach Jeremiaha Gates.
