According to a release sent out by Sumter County, the steer walked up an embankment covered in brush and tangled trees.

The steer then fell down 4 to 5 feet and was unable to get enough traction to get out.

Crews cleared out the trees and posts, brought in large animal straps and a slide board. They were able to get the wayward bovine onto the board and then dragged the animal out of the ditch.

According to county officials, it took the seven-person crew around 30 minutes to rescue the animal who they say was exhausted but didn’t appear to have any injuries.
