SUMTER COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Do you have any electronics or hazardous items you need to get rid of? If you’re a Sumter County resident, this Saturday is your chance.
Sumter County’s “Amnesty Day” will take place this Saturday, Aug. 26, at the Sumter County Public Works building located at 319 East Anderson Avenue. It will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
You can drop off hazardous waste at no charge.
Acceptable Items:
- automotive fluids
- batteries
- herbicides
- latex and oil paints
- solvents
- household cleaners
- pool chemicals
- electronics (ex. TVs, VCRs, computers)
- propane tanks up to 25 lbs.
Sumter County holds “Amnesty Days” four times a year. So far, more than 40,000 pounds of recycled material and more than 10,000 pounds of hazardous waste have been collected at the first two collection events, according to county officials.

There are some items the county won’t allow you to discard.

- radioactive waste
- empty paint cans
- tires
- biological/infectious waste
