SUMTER COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – If you have any waste you need to get rid of, you can do so at Sumter County’s ‘Amnesty Day’ this weekend.

The county’s Amnesty Day will be held on Saturday, November 4, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Lake Okahumpka Park located at 6085 E State Road 44 in Wildwood.

Here’s a list of some of the items you can drop-off: 

  • Automotive fluids
  • Batteries
  • Herbicides
  • Propane tanks (25 pounds)
  • Cleaners
  • Household Electronics (TVs, VCRs, computers, etc.)
  • Rechargeable household batteries
  • Fertilizers
  • Latex/oil paints
  • Solvents
  • Pool chemicals
  • Smoke Detectors
  • Fungicides
  • Pesticides

Do NOT Bring:

  • Explosives
  • Radioactive waste
  • Empty paint cans
  • Tires
  • Biological/infectious waste

Sumter County officials say approximately 340 residents participated in the last Amnesty Day in August.

“Residents dropped off nearly 35,000 pounds of recycled material along with nearly 12,000 pounds of hazardous material,” said county officials. “So far in 2023, residents dropped off nearly 90,000 pounds of recycled material and nearly 55,000 pounds of hazardous material.”

The city has already scheduled future Amnesty Days:

January 20, 2024 – Lake Okahumpka Park, 6085 E SR 44, Wildwood 

April 6, 2024 – Lake Okahumpka Park, 6085 E SR 44, Wildwood 

August 24, 2024 – Sumter County Public Works, 319 East Anderson Ave, Bushnell

November 2, 2024 – Lake Okahumpka Park, 6085 E SR 44, Wildwood
