SUMTER COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Sumter County Emergency Operations Center (SCEOC) advises its residents to remain cautious around downed trees.

SCEOC fears that high winds from Hurricane Milton may cause weakened trees to fall.

The center advises residents to report non-life-threatening downed trees to the Sumter County Citizens Information Center (SCCIC) at 352-689-4400. Residents can also text the information to 352-282-0573.

If the downed tree poses a life-threatening scenario, the center says to dial 911 immediately.

SCEOC says residents should not attempt to remove trees alone as they can pose “significant” safety risks such as downed powerlines. They say to report any downed powerlines directly to their nearby utility provider.

City of Bushnell utility customers can report outages or downed powerlines by contacting the SCCIC.

SCEOC has outlined some safety reminders for residents:

  • Remain indoors during the storm and avoid unnecessary travel.
  • Monitor local weather updates and alerts from the Emergency Operations Center.
  • Do not assume that breaks in the weather signal safety—conditions can change quickly.

Sumter County Fire and EMS will work alongside road crews to respond to incidents and restore normal conditions once the storm subsides.

Call the SCEOC at 352-689-4400 or text 352-282-0573 for more information.
